Is Alpha-Gal Syndrome Cheaper? Not Always.
When you’re diagnosed with Alpha-Gal Syndrome, it’s easy to assume you’ll save money. After all, chicken is more affordable than beef, and red meat is suddenly off the table. And for some, that’s true. But for others, the cost of a strict organic diet and certified vegan home and hygiene products can quickly add up.
Today, we are going to change that! I’m going to share with you where to purchase high quality organic food that is shipped to your for a price that is comparable to your local grocery store.
The True Cost of Alpha-Gal Living
Specialty meats like emu, ostrich, duck, and goose are on the expensive end. Even decent cuts of flash-frozen fish often require monthly delivery subscriptions. My local grocery store offers just one brand of organic flour—and it’s approximately $3.00 more than the store brand I used to buy!
Homemade vs Processed: The Flour Dilemma
In my house, flour is a staple. I make most of my own breads, noodles, and cakes. At $8.00 a bag, it would probably be more cost-effective to buy AGS-friendly processed products. But—I didn’t want to. So, I went on a quest to find the best product at the best price.
A Tale of Three Flours
First, I ordered straight from a stone mill, and it was amazing. I nearly cried when I used the last of the cornmeal—but with $40 in shipping alone, I knew that , sadly, I wouldn’t be ordering again. I tried my local health food store next. While the quality was decent, it didn’t come close to that stone-milled flour.
Then, one desperate day, I added flour to an Amazon order. I love Amazon, but there’s something a bit sketchy about a paper-packaged food being dropped on the porch in all kinds of weather with nothing more than a cardboard box for protection. The flour was comparable to what I buy at my local store, in both cost and flavor, so ordering was not something worth doing (for me).
Discovering Azure Standard: The Game Changer
One day, I saw an ad and if I didn’t know better, I’d swear it had a glowing halo around it. A few weeks later (it’s a once-a-month delivery), I placed my first order from Azure Standard.
I started with coconut flakes for milk, a 5 lb. bag of flour, and 10 pounds of oatmeal—which I eat daily and also use to make milk. I added coconut, olive, and avocado oils. Chili powder and cumin since I was running low; and a bottle of [vegan] maple syrup rounded out the order. The prices were, comparable to what I was paying at my local grocery store — but the quality was definitely superior!
Bulk Buying Pays Off
Since I’d tried several items and felt confident in the products, I increased my order size the next month. I did some quick math in my head, then grabbed a calculator because I thought I must be wrong. But I wasn’t!
Purchasing in bulk saved me $45.00 over buying the same amount of flour locally. Needless to say, I did a happy dance and happily purchased the 25 lbs. bag of organic flour!
Storage Tips for Bulk Goods
If you’re buying in bulk, be sure to store your items properly. I keep my flour and oats in airtight containers and freeze extras to keep them fresh longer. Oils are stored in a cool, dark space, and seasonings go in glass jars with tight lids to preserve their bold flavor.
The Shipping Surprise
You’re probably thinking: there’s got to be a catch, like steep shipping costs. But nope! Azure uses its own freight trucks, so shipping is shared. I paid under $13.00 on a $150.00 order.
What to Expect from Azure Quality
The quality of Azure’s products is superb, but here’s your warning: be ready to see actual green olive and avocado oils, coconut oil that smells like real coconut, and seasonings so flavorful you’ll want to go easy on them at first. Very few of the items I have ordered so far are not Azure brand, but of the few things I did add on, they too were excellent.
Ethical Sourcing and Transparency
One of the things I appreciate most about Azure is their commitment to organic, non-GMO, and ethically sourced products. Their transparency and product education make it easier to shop with confidence when you’re managing something as serious as AGS.
Living Rural? This Is for You
Living in a fairly rural area, Azure has been a game changer for my pantry since they deliver across the U.S. To find a drop near you, visit Azure’s website and use their delivery map or search tool. If there’s no drop nearby, starting one is easier than you’d think—and can benefit your whole community.

I’d love to know what you try—and what you would recommend as well!
Hi, I'm Mahina - the voice behind The Pal Post curtain. I never set out to be a blogger, but sometimes life throws us a curve ball and we are forced to make lemon-aid...or...yeah, you know what I mean!
Having AGS has changed my life, but luckily, (for me) it has not all been for the worse. I happen to enjoy lemon-aid. Seriously though, I'm so sorry about why you are here - but I am happy that you found us!
My goal is keep the blogs short and informative while served with a side of humor, because I know first hand that AGS already consumes so much of our time (and our overwhelming thoughts).
Please be sure to comment so I know you're out there!
